The UnitedKingdom Public Course Championship (UKPCC) has provided many non-NAPGC member clubs the opportunity to participate in a major competition organised by the many experienced officials of the NAPGC at both Regional and National level. With St. Andrews – still known as the “home of public golf” hosting the National Final each year, the UKPCC has attracted some entries from Scotland as well as Ireland and Wales.
Many Members of clubs in Scotland who NAPGC Executive members have met during our visits to Scotland have indicated surprise that their club has not entered the UKPCC, not least some of those at St. Andrews itself! In February 2011, the NAPGC Executive Committee took the decision to encourage more Scottish clubs towards the NAPGC and its policy of “golf for all” and agreed to commit resources to this effort.
We are looking in 2012 at attracting more clubs to the benefits and enjoyment of playing in NAPGC competitions. The UKPCC offers a simple way to enter a most prestigious event and to sample the benefits of NAPGC tournaments – friendly yet competitive, well organized yet relaxed, open to all golfers with a CONGU handicap and with the undoubted attraction of progressing to a National Final at St. Andrews. We are delighted to confirm that Torvean Golf Course,Strathmore Golf Centre and Mouse Valley have agreed to host Regional Finals this year.
We are very fortunate in having Peter Pegrum, an NAPGC Vice President, Past NAPGC Captain and Competitions Committee Chairman, who is resident in the Perth area and he has agreed to act as our Scottish Co-ordinator, together with Robin Tracey who has been elected as a Scottish Representative to the NAPGC Executive.
If we can identify that there is sufficient interest among clubs, we are fully committed to work with those clubs to create and develop the Scottish Region of the NAPGC in 2013 and beyond. Whilst under the auspices of the NAPGC, the Scottish region would be run “by Scots for Scots.”
This is a major initiative to bring the NAPGC to the notice of public and proprietary clubs in Scotland, initially in 2012 to join with their fellow players in England, Wales and Ireland in playing in the UKPCC.
