The Finals of the Bourne-Vanneck and JHB competitions were held at Stevenage Golf Course over the weekend of 14th/15th July. The Bourne Vanneck final was contested by 15 teams who had qualified from the regional finals held earlier in the year. Many of the players commented on the excellent state of the course, particularly given the recent extremely dry conditions but also that it was a tough challenge, largely due to the unremitting sunshine (a phrase not often use in these reports).
The Cheshunt ‘B’ team of Brad Robinson, Steve Standing and Scott Wright won the Cup with a gross score of 221. Ben also shot the lowest gross of the day with a very credible 69. Basildon ‘D’ were runners-up with a score of 227.
The Shield was won by Basildon ‘B’ consisting of Dave Partner, Shaun Holding and Danny Bear with a nett score of 221.
Rose Hill ‘A’ were runners-up with a score of 223.
On Sunday it was the turn of the Ladies for their JHB Final. Thirteen teams from all over the country entered the competition The weather was a hot on Saturdaywhich made it very tough- everyone was exhausted by the heat at the end. to everyone’s credit there were no ‘No Returns’in this team medal competition which just goes to show the spirit of support amongst all the teams.
The Cup was won by the Hainault Forest ‘A’ team of Julie Finegan, Fiona Stokes and Mel McLaren with a gross score of 251.
The Shield was won by Jane Seabrook-Lea, Helen Matthews and Renata Kaczewac from Farnham Park Golf Club with a nett score of 227.
The runners-up in the gross competition were Easthampstead Ladies ‘B’ and in the nett Easthampstead Ladies ‘A’.
