The NAPGC have been carefully watching the emergence of government advice and considering how this fits with our organisation and proposed activities. We have also now seen the guidance from England Golf on their competitions and activities. Considering all factors we have decided that the responsible thing to do is suspend competitions for the immediate future, with a formal review and update to be provided to Clubs by the end of May (or sooner if possible).
We aware that many of you have already put your own club competitions on hold, particularly as club houses are closing for business, and would advise those that have not done so to carefully consider the safety and wellbeing of your members and officials. Social golf seems to be acceptable for now, providing players keep a distance of 2 metres and contact is avoided. Please note that the handling and exchange of items such as cash and score cards also comes into focus as an area of risk for transmitting infection.
Matches played to date in the Gordon and Mary Forster Bowls will stand, but no more fixtures should be played for now and the finals will be rearranged. All summer knockout matches should also be put on hold and the various club qualifiers for championship events should also be put on hold. Our intention as at today is still to run the competition season, though we will need to put some special rules and arrangements in place to be able to achieve this in the available timescale, or otherwise somehow adjust the timescale.
We know many of you will be disappointed that competitions are on hold, but feel sure given the gravitas of events you will understand the need to take this approach.
We are living in unprecedented times so please take care and follow the advice being given.
