The first NAPGC finals for 2019 were held, as in previous years, at Cherwell Edge Golf Club, Oxfordshire. After the previous days gale force winds, a byproduct of storm Hannah, we were greeted by overcast skies with a slight breeze – prefect conditions for an excellent days golf. Seven Ladies’ teams and nine men’s teams had battled through the rounds of this winter competition to contest the final.
The ladies started the proceedings producing some very goods scores -the best score of the entire day came from Bernie Howe who came in with an impressive 41 points.
In the end only one point separated the top two teams – Easthampsted Ladies (Karen Foan,Sam Cook and Maria Belgrano) just scraping in ahead with 103 combined Stableford points to Haste Hills’ 102 points (Diana Wallace,Wendy Barr and Oikam Lee.)
The Men’s event proved even more exciting. The winning score was not as high as in other years but it did need a count back of the results to separate the top two teams! Both were tied on 129 combined stableford points but the eventual winners were Cheshunt Golf Club ( Richard Bowman, Casey Blunsum, Dan Stannard and George Smith). Wycombe Heights Golf Club (Gary Morris, Mark Vining, Quinten Van Der Merwve and David Parker) were the team who narrowly missed lifting the trophy despite having the top scorer, David Parker (40points) in their team.
