Frilford Heath Golf Club was once again the venue for this annual match, although this year the matches were played on the Red Course rather than the more familiar Green Course. Having narrowly lost last year the NAPGC ladies were determined to do better. The Army Team use this fixture as preparation for their Inter Services Finals later in the year and once again they managed to find some very young new recruits for their team as well as some familiar faces. This year the NAPGC had two new players in their team Mandy Dribble (Mitcham Ladies) and Ish Thompson from Easthampstead Ladies -who in her service days played for the Army team!
The morning foursomes was good for the NAPGC only one team – Claire Harman (Huntswood) & Sandra Combstock (Hoebridge) losing to the new young army pairing- despite their insistance on doing 5 press ups every time they left their putts short- unsuprisingly Claire and Sandra declined the invitation to join in! With the Easthampstead Ladies pair of Alec Cram and Ish winning the next match and the Farnham Park pair of Helen Parr and Jane Seabrook -Lea halving theirs, it was all down to the last morning pairing of Rowan Revell (Huntswood ) and newcomer Mandy. Despite not having ever played together before they won their match which meant that the NAPGC could enjoy their lunch leading 2½ -1½.
The first match of the afternoon was a win for the NAPGC with Sandra winning her match 2up but the second was a loss, with Alex losing a tight match. The next three matches went the way of the NAPGC with Ish, Jane and Helen all winning. Of the remaining matches two were wins for the Army with Rowan taking the last match for the NAPGC. The final result was a convincing win for the NAPGC 7½ v 4½
As always many thanks for Di Walters for organising the fixture and her team for making the day such a good one.
