This annual "friendly" match was once again held at Frilford Heath Golf Club with the NAPGC defending the Trophy they won last year. Played on the Green Course and used by the Army Team as preparation for their Inter Services Finals later in the year, this fixture is always competitive and played in great spirit. All matches are played off scratch as many of the Army team do not belong to official clubs due to the nature of their work but all are very good ! This year the NAPGC had three new players in their team Donna Hunt and Alex Cram from Easthampstead Ladies and Rowan Revell from Huntswood
The morning foursomes saw the Army take a decisive lead winning three of the four matches. The only NAPGC team – Claire Harman (Huntswood) & Sandra Combstock (Hoebridge) – managed a victory winning 2 & 1. Just like in the recent Solheim Cup the NAPGC would need to win most of the afternoon singles matches….
The first match was a win for the NAPGC with Sandra winning her match by 4&2 but the second was a loss, with Claire losing by the same margin. Donna had a very tough match which was halved on the 18th but then Alex then closed the gap with a fine 4 &3 victory. The crucial match was played by Jane Seabrook-Lea (Farnham Park) but unfortunately she lost on the 18th. There was mixed news for the Thornbury girls – Tracy Jones was unable to find a win losing 3 &1 but Gail Howells won her match 4&2. Finally Rowan gave the NAPGC their final victory winning 4&2. Unfortunately although the afternoon matches resulted in a win 4½ -3½ the NAPGC could not pull back the deficit from the mornings play and therefore lost the match 5½ -6½.
Many thanks for Di Walters for organising the fixture and her team for making the day such a good one.
